Single Table Tournaments (Sit & Go's)

Single Table Tournaments (STTs), also known as Sit & Go's, usually feature 10 players (although 9 seat, 5 seat and 2 player – Heads-Up – tournaments are also available) and start as soon as the table is full; Sit & Go's have no specified start time. All players start with the same number of chips, usually 1,500, with the blinds starting at a low level (5/10 or 10/20) and increasing at pre-set time intervals. Play continues until one player has all the chips, with the players ranked in the reverse order of elimination. The typical pay structure for a ten player tournament is 50% of the prize pool for first place, 30% for second place and 20% for third place.

Multi-Table Tournaments

The second and more popular type of tournaments are Multi-Table Tournaments (MTTs). These tournaments consist, as the name suggests, of more than one table with players at numerous tables competing for one another's chips as the blinds and/or antes increase incrementally. Antes are brought into play in the later levels to force players to act resulting in a final table and eventual tournament winner.

As players are eliminated, tables are “broken", meaning players are re-assigned to keep tables full, or even with one another. Eventually, the last few surviving players with chips are assigned to the final table, where the eventual winner is the individual who wins all the chips from his or her opponents. Cash prizes are awarded to the top finishers based on the number of tournament entrants. As with STTS, the blinds increase on pre-set intervals, usually once every 10 or 15 minutes. Note that there is no maximum number of entrants for a multi-table tournament unless stipulated.

Extreme Stack

Being blinded off before you have even seen a decent hand? No problem – play Extreme Stack! Sometimes while waiting for a premium hand the blinds will dwindle down your starting stack, we call this being blinded off. More chips means more time to wait for the better hands to play.

Extreme Stack Tournaments start with 8 players and 2000 chips with the blinds going up every 10 minuets as per the blind structure below.

Turbo Tournaments

Turbo Tournaments can be played in any format of tournament; STTs, MTTs and Heads-Up, the only difference being the stakes or blinds increase at a much higher rate. Every 5 minutes the blinds will go up instead of the more traditional 10-12 minutes.

Re-Buys and Add-Ons

In some tournaments players are given the option of buying more chips during the tournament:

The Re-Buy option allows players (for a set length of time – usually the first hour of the tournament) to purchase more chips when they run out or go below the amount of chips they started with. Some tournaments allow unlimited Re-Buys during the Re-Buy period of the tournament while others allow only a set number (usually 1 or 3) of Re-Buys.

The Add-On option is similar to the Re-Buy option, but is offered only once at the end of the Re-Buy period and can be used regardless of how many chips you have.

All proceeds from Re-Buys and Add-Ons are added to the prize pool.

Sit & Go Rounders

The best way to explain Sit & Go Rounders is by example:

An example of a $5 Rounder: Here a player can enter for $5 + $0.50 yet progress through the next 4 rounds to win $3000! In round one 2 players Freeroll themselves through to round two, then again in round two the top 2 players win their seats into the increasing buy-in cost of round three. Third place in round two wins a Freeroll to replay round 2. Players can buy- in at any stage of the game to avoid competing in the lower levels. In round three the top 4 players go through to round four and fifth place wins a seat back in to round two. Round four is now a staggering $275 + $27.50 to enter and the top 5 make it to final round five. In round five the $5500 prize pool is divided between the top 4 players:

1 st - $3000

2 nd - $1200

3 rd - $800

4 th - $500

Bounty Tournaments

A bounty tournament is a tournament structure in which prizes are awarded for eliminating other players.

A bounty tournament works as follows:

If a player eliminates another player, they get a percentage of the eliminated player's total input amount. For example, their buy-in and re-buys and add-on amounts, if applicable. Any remaining portion of the eliminated player's total input amount goes into the pot. A player is considered eliminated if they go all-in and lose. It is possible that in a game a player may get multiple bounties if multiple players are eliminated. For example, there is a 50% bounty set up for a tournament and the buy-in is $10. Player A re-buys, without being eliminated, for $8. They then do a $6 add-on and are eliminated by Player B. Player B gets 50% of, $10 + $8 + $6. The remaining $12 goes into the pot.

If a player is eliminated their bounty value is reset to zero. If they re-buy, their bounty value is based on this re-buy amount. The bounty value can increase by further re-buys or add-ons.
