One immensely popular version of Seven Card Stud is the Seven Card Stud Hi Lo game. Essentially, Seven Card Stud Hi Lo is what is called a split pot game, where the player with the highest hand splits the pot with the player who has the lowest qualifying hand.

This means that in order to get the whole pot, a player must be able to make both the highest hand at the table as well as the lowest qualifying hand. Like Omaha Hi Lo, the lowest hand has to be eight or lower. This simply means that the player must be able to create a low hand that does not have a card that is higher than eight.

In a player's low hand, an ace is always played as a one. So this means that a player could have ace, two, three, four, and five and still have the absolute lowest hand possible. He can then use that same ace to compose a high hand of, say, a pair of aces. Low hands are compared card by card, starting with the highest card.

For example, if one player has seven, six, four, three, two, and another player has seven, five, four, three, ace, the second player beats the first. Their sevens effectively cancel each other out, and the next highest cards are then compared.
